CARGOTOPIA 2008_Suitcase-Sound-Studio e RUM Radio Universitaria do Minho

Suitcase-Sound-Studio
by Dorothea v. Stillfried, Jan Theiler and RUM rádio universitária do minho

The Suitcase-Sound-Studio, as a part of the project "Cargotopia", is a collective platform for recording sounds and voices during the Festival do Cais.
It will feature a minimum technical equipment to teach the participants the skills of soundrecording and cutting with the aim of working in a flexible, spontanious and simple way.
It will not only collect stories, songs and fieldrecordings from the people on board, but also from the people living in the cities, where the project will be anchored.
Continuous sound-installations will be created by all participants to present the
process of the work, to the public ashore.
To reach more people in all the regions that we cross, the Suitcase-Sound-Studio wants to work together with local radiostations on the way, where the results of the recordings and live interviews will be broadcasted.
The Suitcase-Sound-Studio will focus on young persons who just got out of jail, trying to give them a possibility to talk about their expieriences, their past, their plans, their dreams and ideas.
We want to examine, what freedom and responsibility means to them and if the journey brings changes to their way of thinking.
The Suitcase-Sound-Studio wants to work in german, portuguese and english with the help of interpreters, that will be contacted before.
This should allow all participants to compare situations and attitudes about social and political issues in different countries.
In the end the collected material will be edited and offered as a feature to national radiostations in Portugal and Germany.
